Arizona benefits for college students

Each section links to the full rules.

Food assistance: Nutrition Assistance (NA)

Arizona's name for SNAP, run by Arizona Department of Economic Security. If you are enrolled at least half-time, you need a student exemption to qualify, such as working 20 hours a week, work-study or caring for a young child. If you are enrolled less than half-time, the student rule does not apply and only the regular SNAP rules do. See every exemption →

Health coverage: AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System)

Arizona has expanded Medicaid, so adults with low incomes, students included, can qualify based on income. All your health coverage options →

Child care help: Child Care Assistance Program

Before you apply: Most new families go on a waiting list.

Going to college or training can count, with limits. School can count, but only if the parent also works a monthly average of at least 20 hours a week (the work rule doesn't apply to teen parents finishing high school/GED). Counted education: adult high school/GED, certificate programs, two-year and four-year degrees, plus travel to class. Most families not on Cash Assistance or referred by child welfare go on a waiting list.

Taxes

Arizona has no state Earned Income Tax Credit. Arizona offers free filing through Free File Alliance partners (typically for federal AGI of $89,000 or less) reached from the ADOR page, plus free fillable (non-calculating) paper forms.
