Food assistance: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Oklahoma's name for SNAP, run by Oklahoma Human Services (OKDHS). If you are enrolled at least half-time, you need a student exemption to qualify, such as working 20 hours a week, work-study or caring for a young child. If you are enrolled less than half-time, the student rule does not apply and only the regular SNAP rules do. See every exemption →

Child care help: Child Care Subsidy Program

Going to college or training counts as an approved activity in this state. OKDHS says the subsidy helps income-eligible parents pay for licensed child care while they work, are in training, or are getting an education; you provide your school or training schedule. Oklahoma's 2025-2027 CCDF State Plan counts adult high school/GED, two-year and four-year degrees, literacy, adult basic education and ESL classes, and vocational/technical training, as long as the program qualifies for federal financial aid or other federal or state education funds. There is no minimum number of hours and no extra work requirement for students.

Taxes

Oklahoma gives a credit equal to 5% of the federal earned income credit, figured using the federal rules in effect for tax year 2020 and prorated if your Oklahoma income is less than your federal income; you claim it with Form 511-EIC. The Oklahoma Tax Commission says Oklahoma residents who meet certain criteria can file their state return free online through OkTAP.
