The details
State law entitles a student in good standing at a state-supported Alaska institution to a waiver of undergraduate tuition and fees if they were the spouse or dependent child of an Alaska resident who was (1) a member of the armed services (Alaska National Guard, Alaska Naval Militia or U.S. armed forces) who died in the line of duty or from line-of-duty injuries, or was listed by the Department of Defense as a POW or MIA; or (2) a peace officer (including correctional officers) or member of a fire department (including registered volunteer departments) who died from an act arising out of their duties. Dependent child includes natural, adopted and stepchildren and children the member stood in loco parentis to for 3+ years. The Alaska Office of Veterans Affairs describes it as a waiver of all undergraduate tuition and fees through the University of Alaska system.
