The details
State-funded and administered by GSFA. Covers all UNG costs for tuition, fees, room, meals, books and uniforms for four years (UNG estimates $85,000+). Recipients enlist in the Georgia Army National Guard, join UNG's Corps of Cadets, earn a bachelor's degree and commission as second lieutenants, then serve at least four years as part-time Guard officers (eight-year total obligation per UNG). If the service obligation isn't met, the full amount must be repaid with interest within five years (it is legally a service-cancelable scholarship loan). Selection: legislators nominate; the committee nominates 6-10 students per congressional district by February 1, with at least three selected per district (about 42 a year; FY2027 cap 210 total). GMC State Service Scholarship recipients who finish an associate degree can transfer up to four more semesters.
