The details
Teachers selected by the Louisiana Department of Education have their course tuition paid directly to the college by LOSFA on LDOE's behalf. LDOE runs a competitive selection three times a year, aligned to the fall, spring and summer semesters. The underlying law (La. R.S. 17:7.3) covers courses in the teacher's field, a shortage area, or a graduate degree in the area of certification, requires one semester of classroom teaching in a Louisiana state-approved school for each semester of coursework funded, and requires repayment for courses not completed.
