The details
Three tracks. RN: for students in a Board-approved ADN or BSN program graduating within 12 months with a 2.5 GPA; $2,000. LPN: practical nursing students graduating within 12 months with a 2.5 GPA; $2,000. CNA: students in a Board-approved nurse aide program; up to $1,000. All require Virginia residency for at least one year and a valid Social Security number, and the money is paid to the school. Recipients must get licensed/certified and work full-time in Virginia for one year (the LPN track's checklist on vanwc.org mentions a long-term care facility), reporting employment every six months; default can mean repayment. Priority goes to those planning to serve underserved areas. The application asks for proof of enrollment, transcript, financial aid documentation (FAFSA summary or award letter if you receive aid), a 750-word essay and two recommendation letters.
