The details
State tuition assistance for members of the Virginia National Guard enrolled at a Virginia public college or an accredited nonprofit private college with a physical Virginia location (not religious training). Covers tuition only, up to a per-student cap set each semester from available funds and the number of applicants (fall 2026 cap: $5,000; earlier semesters averaged about $4,500). Grants are made in order of application if funds run short. Recipients sign a promissory note and incur a two-year commitment to the Virginia National Guard after the last term funded. Failed, incomplete or withdrawn courses are recouped and can lead to suspension; it can't be used to repeat a passed course. Members are encouraged to use federal benefits first. Undergraduate and graduate study both qualify.
